Boston Cannons and Harvard Stadium to host All-Star Game on July 9, 2011

The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, will host the 2011 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game on Saturday, July 9 at Harvard Stadium in Boston, MA.

“The MLL All-Star Game is a tremendous celebration of the sport of lacrosse with the greatest players in the world taking part,” said commissioner Gross.  “The fans love the competition, the halftime Bud Light Skills Competition and the interaction with the players after the game."

The 2010 All-Star Game at Harvard Stadium drew a Cannons record crowd of 11,771 as the US Men’s National Team defeated the MLL All-Stars 13-12.  Major League Lacrosse and the Boston Cannons hosted a full day of events for lacrosse fans that included the pre-game fan zone with the Warrior Chop Shop, Brine mini-field, Gentle Giant Challenge, and the best lacrosse merchandise and memorabilia from New Balance, Warrior, Brine and MLL.  At halftime was the annual Bud Light Skills Competition.  Home team favorites did not disappoint as Paul Rabil won his second consecutive Bud Light Fastest Shot title, matching last year’s 111 mph shot.  Cannons’ midfielder Kevin Buchanan won the Freestyle Shot Competition with a highlight reel goal.  Rabil and Buchanan will look to defend their titles at the 2011 All-Star Game along with the 2010 two-point contest winner Ned Crotty of the Chicago Machine.

The 2011 MLL All-Star Game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 including the Bud Light Skills Competition at halftime.  Pre-game will again feature the Fan Zone, free for all attendees to take part in inter-active skills, sampling and entertainment from MLL and Cannons sponsors.

harvard_stadiumThe centerpiece of Harvard’s outstanding athletic facilities is Harvard Stadium, which has stood as a Boston landmark for more than a century. Harvard Stadium was constructed in 1903 and hosted its first game November 14 of that year. Since then, the Stadium has hosted more than 600 Harvard football games as well as hundreds of other athletic and non-athletic events, including Olympic soccer, NFL football, rock concerts and political rallies. The Stadium is a horseshoe containing architectural elements of a Greek stadium and Roman circus and is considered an engineering marvel. It was the world’s first massive reinforced concrete structure and the first large permanent arena for American college athletics. With a seating capacity of 30,898, Harvard Stadium is praised for its outstanding sightlines. The Stadium was upgraded in 2006 with the addition of a FieldTurf playing surface, permanent lighting and a removable all-weather bubble which allows for use of the facility throughout the calendar year.

Driving Directions - From the North
Take I-93 south to Storrow Drive exit. Take Storrow Drive west for approximately five miles. Exit at Harvard Square/North Harvard Street. At top of exit, turn left onto North Harvard Street . The Harvard Stadium entrance is approximately 1/4 mile on your right.

Driving Directions - From the South
Take I-95 north to I-93 north. Follow I-93 until Exit 20 (Massachusetts Turnpike). Take Mass. Pike west to Exit 20 (Allston/Cambridge). After paying toll, bear left at fork towards Allston. Turn right at second set of lights onto North Harvard Street. Proceed approximately one mile. Harvard Stadium will be on your left.

MBTA Directions
The Red Line subway stops at Harvard Square. The Soldiers Field Complex is a 10-minute walk from the square, down JFK St. and over the Charles River. Several bus routes make stops at Harvard Square as well. The 66 and 86 routes include stops on North Harvard Street in front of Harvard Stadium.
